*The Passing of the Peace: Elder Barb Wiles
Leader: Since we have
been justified through faith, we now have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ. Let us live into and share this
peace & grace with our neighbors in all we do. May the peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.
The
Prelude:
* The Call to
Worship: Elder
Barb Wiles
Leader: Let us join hearts and minds together as we worship the
Triune Lord in the splendor of His glory and holiness. As we come together in the name of the
Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit let us make a joyful noise to the
Lord as we sing…
“ Come, Thou Almighty King ” Vv. 1 & 4 # 267
*Hymn “ Shine, Jesus, Shine ” SB # 20
*The Call to Confession: Pastor Stuart
* The Prayer of Confession: Elder Barb Wiles
Unison: Everlasting
Father, We stand before You confessing our many faults, sins and errors
committed against You and the people You created in Your own image and into
whom You breathed the breath of life.
Despite
clear directives, dire warnings, and Your loving insistence delivered by
prophets too numerous to count, we continually place higher value on our
perceived freedom than upon Your fatherly embrace. We regularly debase and deny Your righteous demands and celebrate
the very evils You condemn. Worse yet,
we all too frequently detour others away from the ‘narrow way’ You have
established and applaud them when they go astray. By silence and feeble proclamation we — Your Church — bar the
door to the costly redemption won by Your own Son and then refuse to enter in
ourselves.
Lord
forgive us, transform our heart, minds and souls, and empower us to believe
anew and shout aloud the Good News.
Heal us and send us forth in thanksgiving and gratitude with the works
of repentance. Amen.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day
he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right
hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the
holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the
resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Texts: Luke 12:1 - 12 [NIV]
Title: “
Fear God — Not Men! ”
Luke 12:1 - 12
1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many
thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began
to speak first to His disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of
the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden
that will not be made known. 3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and
what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from
the roofs.
4 “I tell you, My friends, do not be
afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should
fear: Fear Him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into
hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two
pennies? Yet not one of them is
forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than
many sparrows.
7 “I tell you, whoever acknowledges Me
before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of
God. 9 But he who disowns
Me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. 10 And everyone who speaks a word against
the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy
Spirit will not be forgiven.
11 “When you are brought before
synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend
yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at
that time what you should say.”
